Running a specialty niche store has many businesses advantages. They have less competition, higher browse to buy conversions, and smaller inventory count. On the other hand, niche stores often have lower foot traffic, attracting a regular clientele, but showing only a small percentage of growth.
So how can a specialty store capitalize even further on its existing customer base? The answer is simple: find the gift that keeps on giving. In this case, gift registries.
Gift registries allow customers to log products that they wish to own, but that they aren’t immediately ready to purchase. These registries, especially handy for weddings, birthdays, holidays, and other significant events, are passed around to a slew of friends and family members.
This effectively creates a secondary branch of customers who might not have an interest in the specialty store’s products, but who are purchasing them as gifts for your existing customers. These secondary customers can then become repeat buyers as they become familiar with your existing customer’s wants or needs.
Some gift registry systems for POS are sophisticated, allowing customers to browse the store with a scanner and zapping the products that they are interested in. Other system are more simple, customers simple add items via a touch screen monitor or even just ask the clerk or salesperson to add them to their customer profile.
Either way, specialty retail stores that do not have a gift registry can be losing valuable sales if they aren’t set up with a gift registry system.
