A recent PricewaterhouseCooper estimate stated that the average retail business spends 2 percent of revenues on computer automation every year.

This means that a store doing $100,000 a year in business will spend $2,000 on computerization. Likewise, a store doing $1,000,000 will spend nearly $20,000 on computerization.

These figures include both time spent using the computer systems, as well as the hardware and software itself.

So what kind of ROI will you when you decide to computer automate your business? The estimated return on investment is close to 5 times your investment in profit per year! So the non-computerized store doing $100,000 per year that then invests $2000 per year in automation can generate $10,000 extra with in one year's time.

This pretty much equals a 10 percent profit increase every year, which is substantial growth for a small business. Reinvesting yearly will continue to build this revenue growth.

You should always spend as much as you can afford, with only reputable pos providers. Many solution providers have leasing options, and can provide custom solutions tailored to your business.
